Cool It, the documentary, opens in 19 cities across the United States today. Below are some of the latest reviews of the film.

THE LOS ANGELES TIMES: If Al Gore’s ”An Inconvenient Truth” left you feeling as if we’ve already lost the battle against global warming, “Cool It” is a tantalizing counterpoint that will make you wonder if maybe we’ve just been going about it the wrong way…

As the story shifts from Lomborg to the scientists experimenting with ways to offset global warming, we get a look at the possibilities. The range of ideas is eclectic, from the practical simplicity of cooling cities by changing the color of the streets to highly complex systems designed to alter atmospheric conditions. By suggesting there is light at the end of the global warming tunnel, Timoner has made “Cool It” a hopeful film. We just have to know where to look for the switch.

CHICAGO SUN TIMES: “Cool It” starts as the story of a renegade egghead smeared as a critic of global warming, then segues into a platform for advancing his pragmatic analyses. An adherent of the “marginal revolution” in late 19th century economics, Lomborg questions wrongheaded logic for linking data and agenda by mainstream environmentalists. Most of this informative film debunks fallacies and details more efficient fixes.

EXAMINER.COM PHOENIX: “Cool It” is one of the rare documentaries that perfects the delicate balance between education and entertainment… Star Bjorn Lomborg and director Ondi Timoner have developed one of the most thought-provoking and persuasive pieces of cinema to hit the big screen this year, applying logic and reason to the global warming discussion. Granted, it is not without its flaws, but it is an extremely rewarding watch nonetheless.”

Writing in The Daily Green blog, Jim DiPeso calls COOL IT a “must see” new movie. The new movie, he says, “is provocative—and not just for the sake of being provocative.”

Bjorn Lomborg, he says, charts a middle way between a climate change debate that has devolved into shouting between two extremes – one proclaiming imminent apocalypse, the other painting sugar-plum fantasies of a greening earth.

“Lomborg says a better approach would be pouring money into R&D to drive down the costs of solar energy, ocean wave power, 4th generation nukes, and biofuels produced from non-edible feedstocks, so that they can compete with oil and coal. Spend money on the unavoidable need to adapt to climate change already in the pipeline – better sea walls, for example.”

Clive Crook, senior editor at The Atlantic, recently recommended Cool It after seeing a screening at the Heritage Foundation. Calling it “an urgent, intelligent, and entertaining account of the climate policy debate, with a strong focus on cost-effective solutions” Crook praises the film’s artistic nature.

The review highlights the Q&A following the screening where Lomborg addressed questions about funding the clean energy R&D he recommends in the film and the issue of growing the “intelligent middle” in order to have a level-headed conversation about cost-effective solutions. Crook notes that Lomborg’s responses reinforce the tone of the film which he says is calm, intelligent, and engaging.
